Opening Reception for both exhibitions:

Thursday, April 26, 6-8 PM

Please join The Painting Center this coming Thursday for the opening reception for Douglas Wirls: Furnishings in the Main Gallery and Bill Hochhausen: Frame of Mind in the Project Room.

Douglas Wirls’ exhibition of paintings, pastel drawings and mixed medium works on paper, entitled “Furnishings,” endeavors to impart an uncommon presence to the ordinary trappings and settings of domestic life. In these paintings of chairs, beds and interior spaces, attributes associated with “Nature Morte” in its grand tradition are seen in allusions to a narrative, however, the treatment of form within the emphasis on the atmospheric effects of light is more readily identified with impulses in landscape painting.

In the Project Room “Frame of Mind,” an exhibition of paintings by Bill Hochhausen, offers an array of contradictory optical choices: landscape painting, magnifications of details from the original painting, and a high chroma (shaped) framing ‘context’ that holds all the parts in optical suspension.

We hope to see you there!
